Experiences of Filmmakers’ in Screenplay Writing

In its aim to create cultural and educational value, one of the activities presented by Hakaya MiSK 2018, organized by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation (MiSK Foundation), was discussion circles on numerous fields like art, culture, and education.

3rd action organized a discussion circle titled “Creating Characters in Films”, on Saturday, 11th of August 2018. This discussion circle was led by Mr. Asim Altokhais, a screenwriter and co-founder of 3rd action, Inc… The guest of this discussion circle was Mr. Rahaf Alhasan, a film director.

The discussion started with the guest speaking about his experience in “Flasher”, and briefly allotting to the Saudi experience after the government’s efforts in film making and opening cinemas. The guest speaker also revealed some of the disadvantages resulting from a lack of attention to the screenplay and the effects this has on the final product. The guest speaker pointed out the consequences as a result of failing to address all principals of the plot which may lead many filmmakers to failure in writing their first script. In the end, the guest suggested that screenplay writing is a task that should be delegated to an experienced and professional screenwriter, which will always help at the end.

The life of an actor within different characters

3rd action organized a discussion circle titled “The life of an actor within different characters”, on Friday, 10th of August 2018. The discussion circle was led by Mr. Asim Altokhais, a screenwriter and co-founder of 3rd action, Inc. and hosted guest speaker Mr. Ibrahim Alhasawi, an actor and director.

The discussion revolved around mechanisms in choosing a character through a screenplay, also mentioning experiences of some international actors and how they embody certain characters. The guest also talked about his own personal experience in trying out and researching each character beforehand, in order for him to embody it professionally

Adapting a novel into a film screenplay

In its aim to create cultural and educational value, one of the activities presented by Hakaya MiSK 2018, organized by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation (MiSK Foundation), was discussion circles on numerous fields like art, culture, and education.

3rd action organized a discussion circle titled “Adapting a novel into a film screenplay”, on Wednesday and Thursday, 8th and 9th of August 2018. The discussion circle was led by Mr. Asim Altokhais, a screenwriter and co-founder of 3rd action, Inc. The discussion started by stating the importance of novels and the central role they play in the making of Arabic and international cinema since the start of the nineteenth century until the present day. Later, Mr. Altokhais talked about his experience in transforming part of a novel into a short film. The film was shot in Canada, titled “Meeting with the devil”, and was produced by 3rd action Films.

Mr. Altokhais also pointed out the importance of the plot, characters, and details in a novel having a major and important role in converting novels into a film screenplay.

Buying formats of a program or TV Series

In its aim to create cultural and educational value, one of the activities presented by Hakaya MiSK 2018, organized by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation (MiSK Foundation), was discussion circles on numerous fields like art, culture, and education.

3rd action organized a discussion circle titled “Buying formats of a program or Television Series”, on Tuesday, 7th of August 2018. The discussion circle was led by Mr. Asim Altokhais, a screenwriter and co-founder of 3rd action, Inc. along with guest speaker Ms. Kholoud Abu Homos, the CEO for Arab Format Lab in a panel discussion under the title “Buying formats for programs and TV series”, and it’s been attended by entrepreneurs, producers, directors, media and filmmakers enthusiasts.

The discussion talked about why the Arab society is not being able to reach the world with our programs and sustainment in only buying programs from outside, as Ms. Kholoud Abu Homos strengthened her stand from having an Arab voice that represents us in two important events in Europe and Hollywood to strengthen the Arab presence. And that doesn’t happen unless we launch our Online Academy Platform that will take the youth whom are interested in the 7th Art in order to take a team a train them by professionals till the youth are able to continue their journey with professionalism and during this cycle of 11 months we will have our first Arab film produced by those youth as it happened in its other versions in China and the Netherlands.

Also Ms. Kholoud Abu Homos noted on the importance in investing in human energies and human brains because they are the one responsible for the creative work and creative visions and this is exactly what this online initiative about and it’s to create a society that is able to create their own programs by themselves and after that they can export it to the world.

Creating characters in films

3rd action organized a discussion circle titled “Creating characters in films”, on Tuesday, 7th of August 2018. The discussion circle was led by Mr. Asim Altokhais, a screenwriter and co-founder of 3rd action, Inc. along with guest speaker Mr. Tareq Alrowaily, a cinematic director.

The discussion revolved around the guest mentioning his experience in directing and producing the hexagonal “Ekhlas” that was aired on the SBC network. Also, the guest mentioned the challenges he went through when working to produce this series, which allowed him to think seriously about future work. Moreover, other related topics were discussed as well as the challenges faced in the field.

Visions on the Saudi Theater

In its aim to create cultural and educational value, one of the activities presented by Hakaya MiSK 2018, organized by Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Foundation (MiSK Foundation), was discussion circles on numerous fields like art, culture, and education.

3rd action organized a discussion circle titled “Visions on the Saudi Theater”, on Tuesday, 7th of August 2018. The discussion circle was led by Mr.Asim Altokhais, screenwriter and co-founder of 3rd action, Inc. along with guests, Mr. Yasser Alhasan, a writer and theater director, and Mr. Faisal Aljutaily, a theater actor.

The discussion was centered on the Saudi theaters in all Saudi cities, and the ways in which they can attain many Arabic awards regardless of lack of support or private funding or the nonexistence of professional institutes and theaters like the exemplary ones in Kuwait and Egypt. The guests also mentioned their personal experiences in the field.
